Everyday Saints Devotional 13
by David Joynt on January 14, 2022
PSALM 95:1-2, 6 | 1 O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! 2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
6 O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
Since the Sabbath practice aims at human renewal, development, and joy—it will vary. This variance makes it hard to create “one size fits all” routines but allows for individual customization. What
renews your soul and mine will differ. We may take different
approaches to prayer, with you emphasizing silence while I vocalize praise. You may read scripture and keep a diary of answered
prayers, while I read commentaries and take notes to meditate
upon. Some of us are renewed by physical activity, others through art or music. It is right for some to right wrongs on the Sabbath, and wrong for others, depending on whether they are called to
ministries of justice and thirst for righteousness. I’ve known activists and contemplatives, artists and scholars, caregivers and prophets, servants and holy dreamers. Different personalities mean different forms of renewal. The Sabbath was made for you, in all your
particularity.
Do you know what renews your soul?
