Everyday Saints Devotional 19

by David Joynt on January 20, 2022

Matthew 10:42 | 42 and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward."

Matthew 25:35 | 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,

The amazing promise in yesterday’s text gets wider and deeper in today’s verses. When we help someone acting in Jesus’ name their efforts count for our reward. Wow.

But then Jesus widens the scope of the help and reward. If we help anyone in need we are helping him. Hospitality to the hungry or the homeless or the imprisoned, and not just to Christian workers counts too. And even more amazingly, the reward is commendation and acceptance in the final judgment. Our hospitality can be
heavenly when done in his name and way, and it can have eternal consequences.

How are you helping the folks mentioned by Jesus in

Matthew 25:35?
