NUMBERS 12:3 | 3 Now the man Moses was very humble, more so than anyone else on the face of the earth.
EXODUS 4:10-13 | 10 But Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor even now that you have spoken to your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” 11 Then the Lord said to him, “Who gives speech to mortals? Who makes them mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you are to speak.” 13 But he said, “O my Lord, please send someone else.”
Yet this Moses, who bearded the Pharaoh, this liberator and lawgiver, this great hero of the faith was “the humblest man in Israel.” Joshua learned a very key lesson from Moses, great leaders know their own limitations! Leadership and ego issues go hand in hand. People hero-worship leaders and sing songs about them, or in our day post about them on social media. The myth of exceptional people and founding geniuses enhances power and it is a shortcut to authority.
Moses knew the job was too big for his abilities and beyond his gifting. Leaders without humility become authoritarian, defensive, paranoid and narcissistic.
Have you dealt with leaders who lacked humility?
