Everyday Saints Devotional 59

LUKE 8:45-46 | 45 Then Jesus asked, “Who touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds surround you and press in on you.” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; for I noticed that power had gone out from me.”
Jesus seems to ask a silly question, because it is unknowable. In a jostling crowd, where people are bumping up against each other continually, dozens of people have touched him.
But Jesus has acute perception that this is more than an accidental contact, it is a purposeful touch in hopes of a cure. He comments that power has “gone out of him,” indicating that his healing acts all cost him some spiritual energy. The woman does not want to ask a rabbi to touch her and become unclean, but she has touched the hem of his garment.
How perceptive are you about the needs and intention of
others?
How well can you sense when your energies are being drained?
