Finale Revelation and Imagination Daily Devotional- 2

by David Joynt on June 07, 2021

REVELATION 1:10 | 10 I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet.

One reason for including different genres is the complex and complementary make-up of human beings. God needs to appeal to and to engage with our wills, our hearts, our intellects, and our imaginations. His commandments speak to the point of us that makes decisions and wills us toward purposes and actions. His tender stories, compassionate deeds, and poetic psalms touch our emotions. His deep teachings and revelatory actions engage our minds. The startling visions and images of the apocalyptic sections, like Revelation, awaken our imaginations.

John saw visions, some on earth and some in heaven, which he describes in vivid detail. But the symbols in the vision are like the donkey and the elephant, representing the Democratic and Republican parties (these symbols originate in political cartoons from the 19th century). They have meaning but cannot be taken literally.
