REVELATION 5:6-8 | 6 Then I saw between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders a Lamb standing as if it had been slaughtered, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of the one who was seated on the throne. 8 When he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell before the Lamb, each holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
The Lamb is able to open the scroll—meaning he is capable of understanding and effectuating God’s great plan. The “seven horns” he possesses express a perfect degree of power, and the “seven eyes” complete knowledge.
This dramatic vision contains a vital message about creation and history: there is a center of the center. Creation is not simply a purposeless process of randomized occurrences leading life towards solar destruction. History is not “a tale, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. There is a person at the center of both creation and history who is the key to their meaning. He is at the center of the worship of heaven and earth, inspiring heaven’s songs and the prayers of the suffering saints in the first century. It is through the Lamb that creation will be made new, and through Him alone human events with their chaotic character, are turned into a unified story.
How central is Jesus in your understanding?
