REVELATION 21:6 |6 Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life.
REVELATION 22:1-2 | 1Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
PSALM 46:4 | 4There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.
In a desert land, water is a potent symbol of life. Jesus had promised the woman at the well the gift of “living water,” an internal, never ending spring within. Here, that promise universal, for in the heavenly city no one will thirst for God, for a deeper life, for more beauty, truth, or love—for all will be satisfied.
Ezekiel had envisioned, in Chapter 47, a river running from the Temple that would support trees that always bear fruit. Here, in John’s vision, the trees too are perpetually and not seasonally fruitful, and their leaves are for the healing of the nations. John’s picture is international in character.
What kind of healing do we need in America?
What other country do you pray for healing in?
If you are able, spend some time near our fountain in the new plaza that was our old baptismal font. Pray that you will have a spring inside!
