REVELATION 5:9-10 | 9 They sing a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slaughtered and by your blood you ransomed for God saints from every tribe and language and people and nation; 10 you have made them to be a kingdom and priests serving our God, and they will reign on earth.”
Yesterday we heard the astounding claim made by John—Jesus is the central key to the meaning of creation and history. Through Him alone, time, nature, and human events become a single story. Our verses today tell us what kind of story!
The Lamb is so central to what God has done and is doing and will do because He has redeemed men and women from “every tribe and tongue and people and nation.” The single story of creation is a redemption story—a tale of love and sacrifice overcoming tragedy and evil.
Now this claim is so astounding because the implications for every aspect of life are both universal and profound. All other theories of history are marginalized or made supplemental. History is not simply a struggle for power or a futile fight with death and decay. Nor is it an automatic progressive process of advancement, fueled solely by human ingenuity and foresight. You and I are freed from fatal pessimism and illusory optimism. Our lives matter more profoundly than we could ever imagine, because they are the focus of the divine plan.
Meditate on these verses today and make them into a prayer.
