Get Real November 23 Devotional

1 PETER 5:10-11 | 10 And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.
Notice the tone and content of these magnificent verses. Peter is a realist who understands that evil can result in injustice, exploitation, persecution, and martyrdom (as it did for him, sometime between 64-67). Yet he is not merely resigned to a grim struggle, like a loyal soldier facing impossible odds. Instead, he is confident and hopeful in the God of all grace. He insists that our destiny, eternal glory in Christ, is absolutely secure. He also tells his friends they can expect to be “restored, supported, strengthened, and held firm” by the presence and power of that same God in the midst of their current trouble.
When have you felt sustained and supported in difficulty?
Gracious God,
Thank You for Peter who was a martyr to his faith. Thank You for his courage and realism and for his faith in Your sustaining presence and victorious power. May I be like him.
Amen.
