Get Real October 24 Devotional

by David Joynt on October 24, 2024

1 PETER 1:20-21 | 20 He was destined before the foundation of the world but was revealed at the end of the ages for your sake. 21 Through him you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your trust and hope are in God.

Dispensationalism divides God’s work into successive eras in which He works differently. Creation followed by the time of law and the election of Israel, then the period of Jesus and the Christian era. But our passage today insists that God was first a Redeemer before He ever created. Salvation is not a series of failed plans eliciting new responses. It is a unified story in which God decided before creation had occurred, to be with us and for us in Christ. The pattern of Jesus’ life is fundamental to His plan and revelation of His identity— loving service, sacrificial suffering, and glorious exaltation. It is also the key to our identity and the pattern for our lives. Love and service, suffering and death, Resurrection and glory. Our faith and hope is that someday we will be like Him, new and strong, filled with divine knowledge and power, beyond the reach of death, decay, and dissolution.

Where have you set your faith and hope?

Gracious God,

May my love for You be founded on reverent awe for all You are and all You have done for me.

Amen.
