1 PETER 1:23-25 | 23 You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.” That word is the good news that was announced to you.
ROMANS 1:16 | 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is God’s saving power for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Obedience and imitation can seem like burdensome tasks we accomplish by herculean effort and grim determination. But obedience to God’s will and imitation of His character originate in His powerful word. The gospel is not mere information, it is the power of God for salvation. Jesus tells the exciting parable of the Sower, in which His divine word, planted in the good soil of our lives and hearts can bring forth a wonderous yield of 30, 60, 100 times a normal life. Here, Peter quotes Isaiah 40:6-8, a meditation on the importance and brevity of our lives, to stress that God’s word in us is like a divine and eternal seed, which nothing can destroy; it brings enduring life and everlasting love.
