LUKE 17:14, 17 | 14 When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean.
17 Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean? So where are the other nine?
“Where are the other nine?” asks Jesus. If I was their defense lawyer, I would point out that Jesus has just sent them for priestly certification, so they can re-enter the world, so they are probably Temple bound. The thought of reunion with loved ones and the first hug in years was calling them away toward family and friends. The lure of once again being able to walk in the market, share a table, or work in the field, was pulling at their hearts. Legitimation, love, and life were all drawing them onwards.
Jesus understood all of this. He is not sad for Himself, that He missed their gratitude. He is upset that they missed their moment with Him. It was a once in a lifetime chance to thank the One who is the source of life, love, and healing.
Thank the Lord today for help or healing He has given to you.
Gracious God,
Don’t let me miss moments to thank and praise You, for You are the Creator of my life, the source of my love, and Your “certification” is the key to everlasting blessing.
Amen.
