Graceways September 12 Devotional

by David Joynt on September 12, 2024

PSALM 46:10 | 10 “Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations; I am exalted in the earth.”

Do you ever feel life is like an escalator or a moving walkway? I am returning from a two-day trip to Dallas and I marvel at the logistics of airports and the speed of movement in particular. I like to take steps on escalators and moving walkways to double my pace. But life itself should not be like an airport.

The urgency of the next moment, the next task, the next meal, the next event, the next problem, should not squeeze out moments of grace and gratitude. As Christians, we are squeezing time before it disappears but moving toward eternity. We believe much is urgent, including love and justice, but that does not mean we must rush. There is a deliberate haste, a focused and calm energy we can aspire to. There is time to be grateful, and express gratitude, to meet Jesus and to celebrate, savor, and remember God’s gifts.

Is your life a moving walkway? Take time today to be still.

Gracious God,

Help me savor and celebrate all Your blessings, all the insights, and all the answers to prayer.

Amen.
