Graceways September 29 Devotional
by David Joynt on September 29, 2024
LUKE 19:41-42 | 41 As he came near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42 saying, “If you, even you, had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
The graceway we are examining this week is problem-solving. We must learn to see issues, assess them, and move toward solutions.
We begin with one of the most compelling and emotional scenes in the life of Jesus. The long, final journey to Jerusalem is about to reach its denouement. Holy Week, as we call it, has arrived. Jesus is received with excitement as He begins to move down from the Mount of Olives toward the city. He pauses to weep over its future. The leaders of Israel will reject the “Prince of Peace” and miss the Messiah they have long awaited. They will choose political and violent resistance to Rome, and suffer the consequences. They will engineer and vote for His death, despite His healings, miracles, and shining example of love and goodness.
This is a tangible reminder, that human suffering, disobedience, and confusion, even our rejection of God Himself—is a source of divine sorrow and pain. There is much in the world that breaks God’s heart.
What breaks God’s heart in Arizona? Our country? Our world?
Gracious God,
Thank You for caring about this world in its brokenness and its people in their strife and rebellion. Help us to share Your compassion.
Amen.
