I Am Because You Are September 13, 2025 Devotional

REVELATION 22:1-5 | ¹Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb ² through the middle of the street the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month, and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. ³ Nothing accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him; ⁴ they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. ⁵ And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and    ever.

This stunning light metaphor brings the Bible to its conclusion and ignorance and evil to their end. “There will be no more night; they’ll need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light and they’ll reign forever and ever.”

If darkness stands for ignorance and light for knowledge there will come a day when every question has an answer and every mystery a complete solution.

If darkness represents evil and death, and light, knowledge and     goodness, there will be a day when the Prince of Darkness is defeated and death becomes a memory. The light we see and know in Jesus, the Resurrected Lord, is a triumphant and a victorious light.

Gracious God,

May I trust that Your light will overcome every shred of darkness in me and in the entire creation. Alleluia.
