I Am Because You Are September 9, 2025 Devotional

LUKE 12:2-3 | ² Nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered and nothing secret that will not become known. ³ Therefore whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed from the housetops.

Light also has the power to reveal and expose. Jesus' life and teaching back His claim to be the light of the cosmos, and by contrast, they highlight much that is false, evil, or unworthy. His care for the broken and struggling contrasted with other spiritual leaders who had forsaken mercy. His humility exposed the rampant egoism of Herod, Pilate, and the Roman authorities.

The illusion that we can hide our misdeeds is punctured by His prophetic words in Luke’s gospel. No one can hide anything, for the secret machinations, the hidden deals, the unseen corruptions and the unholy vices—they will all become visible and accountable.

What did you learn to hide as you grew up?

Gracious God,

Help me to remember that hiding the ugly or callous or dark aspects of my life will never work. Examine my heart and help me move toward transparency with You and others.
