Invitation, Week 3, Day 15

MATTHEW 25:20-21| Then the one who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you handed over to me five talents; see, I have made five more talents.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’
MATTHEW 6:19 | Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal.
Surplus is the key to development. A surplus of food leads to a surplus of time, beyond the struggle for survival, that can be invested in education, the arts and sciences, medicine and healing, infrastructure, community life and organizations, and every sort of cultural enterprise. Surplus capital is the engine of growth, through investment, for every company and the world economy. Surplus implies accumulation.
But accumulation is also dangerous. It provides a false sense of security in our lives, hiding their brevity and vulnerability. We can spend so much effort accumulating and protecting our possessions that we miss out on relationships.
We are rich in things and poor in soul.
Jesus commands work that yields surplus. Do you agree? See Matthew 25:20-21.
Have you heeded Jesus’ warning?
