Invitation, Week 7, Day 44

LUKE 10:1-2 | After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. He said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
The seventy went as an advance team, preparing the way for Jesus’ arrival and ministry. Jesus sees a big harvest! But he sees a small group of harvesters. Today harvesting in the U.S. and Canada uses big machines and very few people, but traditionally it required all hands on deck.
The harvest image stresses that God prepares people prior to our encounter with them. He is at work beyond the church, in people’s lives and hearts.
Notice too that Jesus wants us to pray for church growth. A few people can make a dramatic impact—but only by drawing others into the work.
Pray the bold prayer Jesus commands.
How do you see God at work in the lives of those around you?
Is anyone ripe for a new experience of God?
