Jesus' Family Album December 29 Devotional

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 | 17 So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!

History is not a circle, in which every event and theme is repeated, in an endless repetitive cycle. The genius of the Judeo-Christian tradition involves a more dynamic picture of the human condition, we live in a story. History has direction, or perhaps better directions, it can evolve or devolve, progress or regress. Some human issues are perennial, of course, including life’s meaning and purpose. The struggles for peace and just community, and the way to find hope in the midst of tragedy and loss. Christians insist our Creator is also a Restorer, that he makes old and tired and dying things new. His life is divine and ageless, it is righteous and glorious, always fresh and full. That life he has decided to share with us, and as we accept it we become new.

Do you have a view of history?

Gracious God,

Thank you for making things new, for bringing in Christ truth for the confused, hope to the broken, love to the forlorn, and eternal life to the dying

Amen.
