Lead Like Moses Devotional 22

EXODUS 5:1 | 1Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Let my people go, so that they may celebrate a festival to me in the
wilderness.”

Moses considered carefully his calling before committing to it. Once committed though, he acted quickly to confront the Pharaoh with Aaron. What an extraordinary moment for Moses! The son of the palace returns to the royal court to demand release of the slaves from his own brother. The personal tensions and history must have made the walk into the King’s court fraught with feelings and memory.

But an extraordinary moment for human history too. Moses and Aaron report a divine demand for the release of the slaves. God enters the scene on behalf of the powerless and exploited, seeking their freedom, insisting on justice. Never before do we have the powers that be facing such a request from the benighted and beholden. The order of social life is about to be upset.

Pray for all those in our world held under the sway of a hostile power.
