Lead Like Moses Devotional 4

EXODUS 2:11-12 |11 One day after Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and saw their forced labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. 12 He looked this way and that, and seeing no one he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.
In these verses we see Moses’ two identities in conflict. Some cultural identities are complementary or they differ in non-essential ways. Not so with Hebrew and Egyptian backgrounds. These two groups have clashing interests and widely different worldviews and religious beliefs. By killing the Egyptian taskmaster and defending the Hebrew slave, Moses has made a choice between his two identities. When we pick a team, join a church, sign up for a movement, work for a political party, we are also choosing a cause, or a set of causes. These decisions are crucial in shaping our lives and identities.
What causes have you chosen?
What groups shape your life?
One of the first things Jesus did was pick disciples.
Why was this key?
