Lead Like Moses Devotional 44

EXODUS 32:1-4 | 1When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered around Aaron and said to him, “Come, make gods for us, who shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” 2 Aaron said to them, “Take off the gold rings that are on the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters and bring them to me.” 3 So all the people took off the gold rings from their ears and brought them to Aaron. 4 He took these from them, formed them in a mold, and cast an image of a calf, and they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”
Often in life we are in the middle of a problem, a situation, or a set of relationships. We are put in the position of mediating a conflict or a disagreement. One of the keys to being effective in this role is seeing things from more than one point of view, and having empathy for both sides of a problem.
It is easier to opt in 100% and simplify situations and harder to see the world from different angles. Moses had this ability. He understood God’s goal of creating a flourishing and faithful people, free from false gods and able to embrace their future, flourishing in a new land. He shared God’s frustration with Hebrew rebellion. The church too needs to share God’s frustration with all that is dark, deadly, and disordered in our world.
Do you understand God’s vision for this world!?
Pray for the kingdom to come in us and around us.
