Lead Like Moses Devotional 56
by David Joynt on August 06, 2022
DEUTERONOMY 6:1 | 1Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the ordinances—that the Lord your God charged me to teach you to observe in the land that you are about to cross into and occupy.
The love command is the greatest command for a final reason—it reminds that the central goal of God is to be one with creatures in an unbreakable, beautiful relationship of perfect joy and fulfillment. God is love and His love is the pathway and final goal of our lives. We can have no greater desire than to be creatures that share and reflect His wondrous love.
This overarching reason is key because law is a detailed and continuous business in this life, before the kingdom has finally and fully come. In the here and now, law and land are connected, as God tells the Israelites, and also disputed. Law must adjudicate disagreements, restrain and punish evil, and come up against all the differences created by competition and by culture clashes and confusions. In the grit and dust of history, we need to know that our end is glorious!
Think of an example where law and geography are connected.
Pray that disputes about the law will lead us closer to justice and to glory.
