Leading With a Loyal Heart: Day 6
Have you ever had conflicting loyalties? How did you resolve them?
by David Joynt on July 08, 2016
David and Jonathan model loyal friendship in the Old Testament. Jonathan’s loyalty to David is particularly powerful, for it runs against the grain of his own interest and his father Saul’s wishes.
His father wants him to succeed as king and views David as a rival to himself and his son for the throne. Jonathan has promised to protect David and takes several personal risks in order to save him from Saul’s murderous plans. Nor does he simply abandon the mentally tortured king, remaining loyal to his father and eventually dying alongside him. He tries to combine family loyalty with friendship loyalty.
