Leading With an Honest Heart: Day 1

JOHN 18:19-24

When Jesus was on trial for his life, the high priest questioned him about his teaching. Our Lord’s reply sums up a key way he operated—”I have spoken openly to the world, I’ve always taught in synagogues and in the Temple, where all Jews gather—I have done nothing in secret.”

Openness and transparency are intimately connected to integrity. Jesus had no secret agenda, no hidden beliefs; He took the risk of consistency, sharing the same positions with the public He did with His intimate circle. He was the same man privately as He was in the courtroom of public opinion. This practice ups the accountability factor—there is no room for “plausible deniability,” no possibility of massaging beliefs to suit audiences, or presenting different faces to successive interlocutors.

Do you speak openly?

Do people know the real you?
