DEUTERONOMY 25:15
One practical test for honesty is the question—”What are you like when no one is watching?” When no one can see us, no one can correct us or implicate us, do we maintain our ethical standards? When we think we can get away with a lie or a deception, do we behave with a sense of impurity? The view “it is not wrong unless you are caught!” has become prevalent today. People write resumes with degrees they never earned, or claim to be veterans when they never served, or go on disability when they carry no handicaps or injuries.
US retailers lose $60 billion from thefts by their own employees. What would Wall Street be like without regulators? Or tax compliance without the IRS?
Do you behave the same way, with honesty, when there is no fear of punishment or exposure?
Read the ancient law from Deuteronomy insisting on honesty in business transactions.
