Live Your Blessing February 3, 2026 Devotional

by David Joynt on February 03, 2026

DEUTERONOMY 7:9 | 9 Know, therefore, that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who maintains covenant loyalty with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.

Abraham was blessed so that he could become a blessing to others. So are we. God wants us to be agents of His blessing, purveyors of His favor, dispensers of His grace. We are to, in Peterson’s memorable phrase, "animate His blessings." It is the words of our mouths and gestures of our hands, and expressions of our faces that can convey His thoughts and purposes and presence to others. This happens despite our brokenness. Notice that brokenness and judgement have an intergenerational impact, and we certainly see that in the way dysfunction can plague families. But don’t miss the contrast.

Blessing has an impact for a thousand generations! It can reverberate for 200 centuries. Indeed Abraham’s impact has already
lasted three millennia.

Are you focused on leaving a lasting legacy of blessing?

Gracious God,

Don’t let me be discouraged by my failures. Help me see your capacity to multiply my acts of blessing and create a legacy that will last.

Amen.
