Live Your Blessing February 9, 2026 Devotional

MARK 2:5-11 | When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Child, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there questioning in their hearts, “Why does this fellow speak in this way? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” At once Jesus perceived in his spirit that they were discussing these questions among themselves, and he said to them, “Why do you raise such     questions in your hearts? Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and take your mat and walk’? 10 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— 11 “I say to you, stand up, take your mat, and go to your home.”

The Hebrew word dayenu means “it would have been enough or it would have been sufficient.” It is the title of a Passover song from the Haggadah, which is over 1,000 years old. There is a text of it from the 9th century A.D. It would have been enough if Yahweh had simply freed the Israelite slaves from Egypt, but He offered them the covenant, bestowed the law, led them through their wilderness sojourn, sustained them with quail and manna, and helped them to the Promised Land. His blessings always exceed and go beyond.

It would have been enough if Jesus had just healed the paralytic who was let down from the rafters, but He also forgave Him. It would have been enough if He had taught the multitudes divine truth, but He also fed them a fish dinner. It would have been enough if Jesus showed us the way to live on earth, but He opened a pathway to heaven.

What can you do this week that is holy and excessive?

Gracious God,

Show me when and how to take a step beyond the ordinary and the expected. Help me walk toward the territory of extraordinary blessing.

Amen.
