ISAIAH 25:8 | 8He will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.
REVELATION 21:3-4 | 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; 4 he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.”
Isaiah wanted a world without loss and tears, without mourning and sorrow, and the indignity of the living dying. A mobile face frozen, beautiful eyes open no more, a tender voice silenced, a bitter reduction of heart and soul to dust and darkness. The raising of the centurion’s servant, the widow’s son, and Lazarus, all testify to God’s power to overcome death. He brought a different comfort to the mourning than simple empathy!
The resurrection of Jesus makes God’s death-reversing and life-giving power universally available. In Him death is swallowed up.
Can you imagine a world without the shadow of death or the fear of evil?
Pray for all who bring comfort to the mourning.
