New? January 13 Devotional

2 PETER 1:3 | 3 His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
Peter begins his second letter by talking about a new power available to everyone in whom God has inspired a “precious faith.” In verse three he begins to describe this power, insisting that it has a comprehensive impact, providing “everything needed for life and for godliness.” There is no need for a supplement or an addition or a further qualification or another guide. Knowledge of Jesus is the comprehensive key to the best life. His Spirit within us, his commands guiding us, provide the necessary and complete means for self-realization and for becoming more like God. Our knowledge of Christ and intimacy with him grows as we access God’s community and the opportunity he provides to serve and witness. We see the Spirit’s work in others, we celebrate the shared presence of Jesus, and we support and encourage one another toward growth and progress.
What do you make of the claim for the “all-sufficiency” of Jesus as the model and motive for the true life?
Gracious God,
In Jesus you give us the perfect life embodied and laid down in love and service. Thank you that through his teaching, example, and accompanying Spirit, we have all we need for godly living.
Amen.
