New? January 19 Devotional

2 PETER 1: 12a 12 Therefore I intend to keep on reminding you of these things...
Human beings have an “object permanence” problem. Very small children do not have the ability to imagine an object that is not in view. They cannot associate such an image with a missing toy, for instance. When a ball rolls under the couch and out of sight, they do not look for it, because to them it is simply gone. Later, between 4 and 7 months this begins to change and it is usually between 10 and 18 months when a child can have a permanent image of an invisible object. When it comes to our faith convictions, we are all toddlers. The truths of the faith, the presence of the invisible God in our lives, regularly disappear. We need continual reminders, even as veteran disciples. Spiritually speaking most of us are distractable, forgetful, and inconsistent.
Do you have periods when God is absent from your awareness?
Gracious God,
Help me to focus on my faith daily and practice your presence. Let me see and sense your work in me and around me.
Amen.
