Pray Without Ceasing, Week 1, Day 3

PSALM 3:1 | O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; 2 Samuel 15:12-14 | While Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, from his city Giloh. The conspiracy grew in strength, and the people with Absalom kept increasing. A messenger came to David, saying, “The hearts of the Israelites have gone after Absalom.” Then David said to all his officials who were with him at Jerusalem, “Get up! Let us flee, or there will be no escape for us from Absalom. Hurry, or he will soon overtake us, and bring disaster down upon us, and attack the city with the edge of the sword.”
David is in trouble. His son has rebelled and seized the throne in a brutal coup d’etat. His opposition is large for he says “my foes are many.” (They are numbered in 2 Samuel 16) They are also active for they are “rising against me.” Real, tangible opposition and genuine danger are engulfing the Kingdom, loyalties are being compromised, sides taken.)
A standard Hollywood plot involves the discovery of a secret conspiracy and the desperate plight of the discoverer who is surrounded by enemies and uncertain of whom can be trusted. It is not paranoia if everyone is out to get you! Sometimes life feels like we are surrounded.
Can you identify with David?
Have you ever faced betrayal or disloyalty?
