Pray Without Ceasing, Week 4, Day 25

PSALM 84:5 | Happy are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.

In this beautiful verse the writer takes this external journey toward Jerusalem’s Temple and makes it an interior trip. Blessed, or happy is the person who has internal roads that lead to Zion! Here the Holy City and the Temple become symbols of a personal experience of God’s goodness. Our hearts can become divine pathways, wherever we are.
Our minds are shaped by our thoughts. When we focus on scriptural truths we create mental pathways for grace to flow. Praise and thanksgiving open channels for the Holy Spirit. Our sense of connection to God deepens.

Take one verse from Psalm 84 and memorize it.

Recite it multiple times today, savoring the words, meditating on the meaning, visualizing the content.

Dave Joynt began his service as a pastor at Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley, Arizona in September 2014. This meant a move away from the Northeast, where he has a long history, growing up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and then serving congregations in Delaware and New Jersey for a total of 23 years.

Dave was nurtured in a great church in Bethlehem where his parents, Anne and Carey, served as elders. He graduated in classics from Lehigh University where his Father taught, and then from Oxford, where he met his wife Julia. Ordained in 1988, he completed a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1993.

He and Julia have a son, Tristan, and a daughter, Madeleine.
