DAY 3
The second scriptural reason for connecting our faith with our reason is rooted in the identity of Jesus. In this great chapter, John says that Jesus is the Logos. This word was extant in Greco Roman philosophy, and it can be translated as “wisdom, order, originating principle, coherence, reason, law, or animating idea.” This profound claim puts Jesus not only at the heart of salvation history as our savior, but also at the center of creation, as its architect, the one who provides the universe with its physical, natural, psychological, and spiritual order. All of life displays the stamp of his love and power, and to know him is to encounter wisdom in its personal and cosmic essence. Life is ordered in every realm and area of life—even though that order is contested.
Compare John 1 with Proverbs 1 and 8. Can you see how what is presented in Proverbs is revealed as genuinely personal in John?
Thank God that through Jesus he has given the world an order in every realm and area of life.
FAMILY TIME—
Try reading John 1:1-5 together, taking turns line by line and going through the passage two or three times.
