Questions Week 12, Day 6

by David Joynt on July 21, 2017

2 PETER 1:16-21

One of our ordination’s vows is that we believe that the Bible is the “unique and authoritative” witness to Jesus Christ, and also God’s word to me.” Now in one sense, this is very simple and unavoidable. The testimony of the first disciples of Jesus is certainly unique, because only they talked with Him, learned from Him, and observed Him during His earthly life. The witness of the first generation of believers and disciples is sui generis and our only original source of knowledge about Jesus’ words and life. But in another sense, this vow is not simply a matter of historical necessity. Instead, it is about my own experience of discovering the truth and power of the Bible and God’s repeated use of scripture to speak to me, to guide, and to reveal himself to me.

Thank God for the first generation of disciples!

Does God use the Bible to reveal His will and nature to you?

FAMILY TIME—

When was the last time you were the only witness to a bad deed?

Or to a great one?

What did it feel like?
