Questions Week 5 Day 7

by David Joynt on June 03, 2017

DAY 7 SATURDAY

 HEBREWS 1:1-2 JOHN 3:17; 10:27-30

God has spoken in many and various ways through the prophets, and we might add, does speak today in many and various ways, but he has spoken uniquely through his son. The Christian faith is different from other religious perspectives because of the scandal of particularity. In Jesus, we believe, God has actually entered history as a human being. Jesus is        sui generis and not like any prophet, seer, or guru before or afterwards. He has direct access to divine knowledge no one else has and continues as Living Lord to guide history and creation. This role for Jesus can still allow for truth in other religions, but his historical revelation becomes the test for it. I am agnostic about whether adherents of other religions will be given eternal life because I see Biblical passages that suggest Jesus, as just judge, will allow for the downside of particularity, which is that many people have little or no opportunity to respond to him because of isolation or cultural limitation. What I know with conviction is that those sheep who know his voice and belong to him will never be lost. Which parts of this week’s discussion resonates with you? Which make you uncomfortable?

FAMILY TIME— Talk with your family about what is unique about Jesus.
