Stress Test Devotional May 18

JOHN 14:25-27; 16:13
Nothing reassures us that we belong for God more than moments when we sense his guidance. This can happen when someone offers a suggestion and we recognize our Father’s voice in the voice of that person. It can occur when an unexpected door opens and we know that the opportunity is a sign of his plan. (It was that way for Julia and I when the VPC pastoral committee issued an invitation for us to come to the Valley). Reading scripture, an insight may emerge from his word about the wisdom of a path we are considering. Or perhaps we make a choice trusting in providence and subsequent events confirm the decision. Jesus reassures his disciples that the Spirit will direct them in moments of crisis when they are under pressure, giving them words to respond to accusations and assaults. Peace and clarity under stress can come as a gift also, when anxiety fades and confidence surges. All these remind us that we are God’s children.
