Real Devotional 10

JAMES 1:6 | ⁶ But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind;

For James, faith is not primarily a cognitive or psychological matter, it is the convictions which guide our words and deeds. His test for our beliefs is our actions, which reveal the real mental map we use to make decisions. Praying faithfully is one of those actions.

I’ve spent many hours of my life at the beach, because our son,    Tristan, is a surfer. Waves are inherently unstable because their size and direction and character shifts in relation to two other main variables; the wind and the topography of the ocean bottom. Surf conditions change constantly. Our faith in God’s provision and promises must always guide our actions, even when we struggle for confidence or can’t understand our life’s events.
