JAMES 2:14 | 14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Surely that faith cannot save, can it?
Hypocrisy is the gap between words and deeds. It is the difference between profession and action, philosophy and life, belief and behavior. James is raising the issue in this passage of unreal faith and will go on to deliberate what forms of faith are genuine and which counterfeit.
Jesus also recognized that final judgement would reveal both wheat and tares within the faith community. Genuine and false faith coexist in every church, and only God is in a position to distinguish them, ultimately. In an approximate way, we can distinguish what real faith looks like.
How do you define hypocrisy?
