Serving Together for Tomorrow: Day 5
Of all our missions, which is your favorite? Do you find it easier to be spontaneous or to make measured and organized responses?
by David Joynt on October 20, 2016
Some needs we are to meet emerge spontaneously, as they did for those in Jesus’ story who were walking on the road and saw someone unconscious and in difficulty. These situations are hard because emerging need doesn’t take account of our previous plans and agenda.
But other needs are endemic and require not spontaneous generosity but careful strategy and organized response. One advantage of church involvement is that we have a chance, as a community, to pool our knowledge, skills, and resources to make wise responses to large and perpetual social ills. Together, we make a dent in hunger through ICM, and in homelessness via Family Promise and UMOM. Together, we do education, healthwork, and development in Africa.
