JOHN 19:27 | 27 Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
How do you measure respect and value? Is it about words and compliments? Is it about time? Can you measure it in dollars, as so many athletes claim?
One great way to measure value and respect is responsibility.
Jesus asked John to care for His mother. The eldest son has this responsibility in Jewish culture and women without husbands had little security on their own. (The disappearance of Joseph’s name from the narratives of the gospels seems to indicate his passing).
The important and precious character of this charge shows the great respect Jesus had for John.
