MATTHEW 25:34-36 | 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’
The Bible never downplays human misery in this life or suggests we should see it as unimportant in light of a future one. Jesus relieved suffering when He encountered it. The famished were fed. The lame, deaf, and blind, were given sight, sound, and movement. The demented were brought to their senses. He taught the confused and forgave the guilty and befriended the lonely.
Authentic churches must reflect this in their use of time, talent, and treasure. Relief can also be the first step to new life in Christ.
Pray for all Christian efforts aimed to relieve suffering in Jesus’ name.
