ROMANS 3:23-24, 28 | 23 since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; 24 they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
28 For we hold that a person is justified by faith apart from works prescribed by the law.
We started with things that were “done and over” on the cross and moved to things that were completed. Jesus’ suffering and humiliation and trauma were over when He breathed His last. So was the many months lived anticipating the cross, in its shadow.
The sterling and inspiring example of His life was completed that Good Friday, unrivaled and pristine. The substitutionary sacrifice of that perfect life was offered and completed too, and so was His personal battle with and victory over, the evil one. But because of what was completed other things were also ”done and over.” The old ways of trying to achieve perfection were finished. Every spirituality that stressed self-justification and prideful effort was finished.
What does grace mean to you?
