MATTHEW 28:18-20 | 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the HolySpirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Biographies usually conclude with the demise of the subject. Sometimes they continue for a final chapter to consider the legacy or impact of a person. Influence can be considered a kind of “second life” in which someone’s words or memory continues to influence attitudes and events.
Only in the case of Jesus does the ending give way to an actual beginning. A short life on the fringe of the Roman Empire seems to end badly. But then Jesus rises and accompanies His disciples on a great adventure, one which spans the generations and circles the globe. His legacy is alive in a different way than any other, because He is not a memory or a symbol, but a ruling and defining present tense Lord.
Has Jesus’ presence ever helped you make a new beginning?
