Soul Songs January 7 Devotional

SUNDAY | JANUARY 7, 2024
EPHESIANS 5:18b-20 | 18b but be filled with the Spirit, 19 as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, 20 giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“Come Thou fount of every blessings
Tune my heart to sing thy grace.”
I struggle to sing in tune! One reason is purely musical, but the other is spiritual. It is easy under life’s pressures, its reverses and challenges, to become frustrated, anxious, or world-weary. At these moments my heart is “out of tune.” A portion of God’s grace in our lives extends to our emotional and spiritual infirmity. Robert Robinson, who at 22 years of age wrote the lyrics for Come Thou Fount, recognizes our tendency to detune and God’s ability to help us. God wants to lift and shift our emotions, and to enable our praise.
Does your heart need tuning today?
Gracious God,
Help me to sing and pray with passion, right emotion, and intelligence. Tune my heart for moments of true devotion.
Amen.
