2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 | 17 So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; look, new things have come into being!

How did our Lord do with His assignment? On one hand, death and evil and greed and injustice still plague our world. History has not become the simple victory of truth and goodness over the forces of distortion and destruction. But on the other hand, Jesus’ many small concrete victories were definitive signs of God’s intent and power to establish universal shalom. Jesus established a new reality, a new kingdom, within human history that will ultimately transform it. Our own experiences of reconciliation, our grasp of truth, our moments of healing, and our embrace of grace and love are previews of the world that is emerging, in which His reign is full and final.

Dave Joynt began his service as a pastor at Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley, Arizona in September 2014. This meant a move away from the Northeast, where he has a long history, growing up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and then serving congregations in Delaware and New Jersey for a total of 23 years.

Dave was nurtured in a great church in Bethlehem where his parents, Anne and Carey, served as elders. He graduated in classics from Lehigh University where his Father taught, and then from Oxford, where he met his wife Julia. Ordained in 1988, he completed a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1993.

He and Julia have a son, Tristan, and a daughter, Madeleine.
