MATTHEW 7:21-23 | 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many deeds of power in your name?’ 23 Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; go away from me, you evildoers.’
There are two signs of a life in which Jesus’ words are heard and done. One is fruitfulness—you will know a tree by its fruit. Beliefs have results and results matter.
But results alone are not definitive. We can do great things, even great things for God, but do them in the wrong way. We can use illegitimate means for good ends. We can manipulate, we can leverage others vulnerabilities. We can coerce or threaten. We can be untruthful or not transparent. We can succeed over against others, elevating ourselves by supplanting them.
And most commonly, we can act out of ego, rather than love.
What is your “modus operandi” when you act for Christ?
