MATTHEW 7:7-8| 7 Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
Our receptivity to Jesus’ words is a mystery, but not because His teaching is mysterious or opaque. Yesterday’s verses must not be taken in that sense. Jesus’ parables are not designed to confuse or mystify. They are deep and accessible. This is evident in the every day settings and familiar characters He chooses and in the story form He utilizes. Some kinds of truth, however, are not simple but rather deep and complex. They require our concentrated attention over time, in community, if we are to grow in understanding. We must persistently and honestly bring our questions to bear and listen carefully to one another and our traditions.
If we do, Jesus promises the results are guaranteed. Everyone who seeks, finds, everyone who asks, receives, everyone who knocks has the door opened to them.
Memorize our verse for today.
What will you seek and ask and knock for?
