The Divine Whisper Daily Devotional- 9

1 SAMUEL 3:1 | 1Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord under Eli. The word of the Lord was rare in those days; visions were not widespread.

The word of the Lord was rare in those days! What a short and profound commentary. There was a paucity of divine direction, a drought of holy instruction. Now there can only be three reasons of this sad state of affairs. Either God is silent, no one is listening, or people cannot recognize His voice. Now the first possibility cannot be countenanced for our God has as a central characteristic, the desire to continuously communicate with His creatures. The author to the Hebrews claims that Jesus is God’s most marvelous communication, but that He has spoken “in many and various ways,” prior to revealing His will and ways in the person of His Son. God communicates in nature, history, via prophets, seers, traditions, and through thoughts and prayers.

The communication breakdown is always on our end! We fail to pay attention or we mistake another voice for His distinctive accents.

Have you had periods where God seemed to be silent?
