The Invasion Daily Devotional -33

MATTHEW 5:14 | 14 You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid.
Much of Christian witness is invisible. Some of it is public and visible. The early Christians permeated public life, preserving and enhancing it in their vocations, locations, and regular roles. But they were also distinctive. They stood out, like lights in the darkness, in their treatment of the weak and powerless, their egalitarian ethos, and their abandonment of ordinary ways to measure value and status. Their generosity was striking, as was their character formation. Humility entered the family of virtues. Simplicity became a practice. There were many fits and starts, of course, and many failures. The practice of permeating risks adopting the attitudes of surrounding cultures and losing Christ-like distinctives, as happened with Jesus’ treatment of women. But whenever we truly follow, there will be light in the darkness.
Sing “This Little Light of Mine” and make it a prayer for yourself and our church.
